I have to admit I never saw the point of the West Coast Avengers. Outside of giving Marvel another Avengers title to sell, it just doesn’t make sense to me. I always considered them a lesser, minor-league team to the “real” Avengers.

In this collection from 1987, half the team consists of well known old school Avengers, with the other half being relative newcomers like Simon Williams/Wonder Man, Moon Knight, and Tigra. It includes a lengthy team-up with New York’s Avengers to battle the Gamesmaster, as well as a multi-issue battle against Zodiac LMDs (life model decoys).

Despite my general reservations about the West Coast Avengers, this was an enjoyable read. The artwork was passable, better than the recent books I read from the 90s.
