The first Philip K. Dick novel I read was The Penultimate Truth, assigned reading for a literature class about science fiction that I took in college. At that time I’d never heard of him, but in the following years many of his works were adapted as popular films. When I recently heard about Amazon’s mini-series based on The Man in the High Castle, I had to check out Dick’s original novel.
Although I loved the concept of the novel – the story takes place in a world where the Axis powers won World War II – I was disappointed in this book. There is very little action in the plot, and too much of the story involves the characters’ internal debates. I haven’t heard a lot about the Amazon series, but on Goodreads I gave this book a 2-star rating.
