A few weeks ago, Gymkata, starring former Olympic gymnast Kurt Thomas, was the topic from the Forgotten 80s. This week, I’ve chosen another movie that stars a former Olympic gymnast.

Mitch Gaylord won Gold on the men’s gymnastic team at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. In 1986, the movie American Anthem came out, featuring Gaylord as a gymnast trying to making the U.S. National Team. The role wasn’t much of a stretch for him. Gaylord’s love interest is played by Janet Jones, who in 1988 became Mrs. Wayne Gretzky, the first lady of hockey.
