The new wave band ABC made a big impact on MTV starting in the fall of 1982 when two music videos from their debut album, Lexicon of Love, saw heavy airplay.

The first of the two, Poison Arrow, is still my favorite:

 

ABC and lead singer Martin Fry had another hit with The Look of Love:

ABC hit the charts again in 1985 with Be Near Me:

 

One of ABC’s last hit singles in the U.S. was 1987’s When Smokey Sings, a tribute to Smokey Robinson. Here is the video:

 

ABC still tours today, featuring original lead singer Martin Fry.
