Eddy Grant is a singer/songwriter/producer originally from British Guyana. In 1982 his first U.S. single, Electric Avenue, became a big hit when it reached #2 on both the U.S. and U.K. charts. The song reached platinum status and remains his best known song today.

Here’s the music video for Electric Avenue:

Grant had a #1 U.K. hit from the same album (Killer on the Rampage) with I Don’t Wanna Dance:

Grant also provided the title song for the iconic 80s movie Romancing The Stone. Even though it was only in the actual movie for a few seconds, it is still my favorite of Grant’s songs. Here’s the music video:

Eddy Grant continued performing and producing music well into the 2000s. In 2016, the government of Guyana announce he would receive a lifetime achievement award.
