For those who have read my post on The New Frontier volume 1, you already know how much I love this set of graphic novels. I especially love the conclusion of the story in volume 2.
The sense of anticipation builds through the first part of this volume, as the final battle with an ancient evil moves closer and closer. I don’t want to drop any spoilers, but rest assured that the climactic battle lives up to the lengthy setup.
One of the things I loved from the first volume was getting to see the various heroes emerge. The same is true of this volume. Green Lantern, Aquaman, Adam Strange, Ray (The Atom) Palmer, Green Arrow and more burst onto the scene. There are also appearances by lesser known DC heroes like The Blackhawks and The Sea Devils.
After the conclusion of the final battle, the book ends with a series of lines from a JFK speech matched to artwork of the heroes in action or heroes yet to be. The final page shows the Justice League in their first official battle vs. Starro the Conqueror, thus completing the journey from the days of the Justice Society to the formation of the Justice League.
I’m also giving New Frontier Vol 2, five stars. The only bad thing about it is that there isn’t a volume 3.
