I reviewed The Six-Gun Tarot, The Shotgun Arcana, and Brotherhood of the Wheel by this author earlier this year. This book follows Laytham Ballard a “rockstar wizard” on a quest for revenge on behalf of a dying friend.
Belcher has a talent for creating intriguing premises and flawed heroes/anti-heroes. I think Ballard is maybe the most flawed of all his main characters so far. Some of the throwaway references to adventures in his backstory leave me wanting some more books featuring him, maybe so prequels?
I gave Nightwise 4 stars on Goodreads – it was an entertaining read, but have the spark to earn the fifth star. The third book of Belcher’s Golgotha series is due out soon and I’m anticipating it’ll be great.
