I decided to read this book when a podcast I listen to for Stranger Things and Black Mirror began covering the Netflix series Altered Carbon as well. I don’t have Netflix – probably a good idea, because I’d never get anything done – so reading the book made sense.

Altered Carbon is essentially a noir detective story that incorporates plenty of science fiction trappings and takes place hundreds of years in the future. I gave it four stars on Goodreads. The plot was fairly complicated and had a lot of characters, there were times where I had to stop when a character was referenced to figure out who they were and how they fit into the plot. There was also a ton of jargon and terminology used, and not all of it was adequately explained.
